These organizations offer certifications that various members of our staff have
achieved through extensive study and rigorous examination. Listed below is additional
information about these certifications, as well as company employees who have earned
these designations.
All of these programs have yearly continuing education requirements that include
classes, reading and work in the industry.
NARI Certified Remodeler -
Certified Remodelers (CR) must have a minimum of 5 years of experience
in the remodeling industry. The training is designed to cover the skill and knowledge
in a broad range of business management and technical skill areas related to the
industry. Typically a CR is a business owner.
These staff members hold this designation: John Sylvestre and Kate Post.
NARI Certified Lead Carpenter - Certified Lead
Carpenters (CLC) are the hands-on field managers who are trained to oversee
every aspect of the project on the project site. Some of the areas covered in this
program are customer satisfaction, personnel management, administration, subcontractor
management as well as general training in the many different trades that are found
on a remodeling project. This program was developed and implemented by John Sylvestre
for the industry. There are now 543 lead carpenters.
The following employees hold this designation: John Sylvestre, Les Anderson
and Don Ellingson.
NARI Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler -The
CKBR designation is a new program developed by NARI to offer specific training
on kitchen and bath design as well as all the elements necessary for successful
kitchen and bath construction. Clearances, work triangles, products and lighting
are some of the topics covered by this program. The program also covers all the
technical and aesthetic alternatives to consider when looking at cabinetry, appliances,
fixtures and surfacing materials. The following
employees hold this designation: John Sylvestre, Kate
Post, and Lisa Heyer.
NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer - The CKD
program is one of the oldest Certified programs in the industry and is
the landmark certification for kitchen designers. The NARI program uses this program
for much of its reference material. The program is based on the 41 rules the NKBA
has developed for good kitchen design. The test to become certified is a rigorous
exam which requires an exam as well as a 6 hour design problem, requiring a candidate
to design and draw a kitchen based on a specific program.
John Sylvestre has been CKDs since 1994.
NAHB Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS)
- This is a new program developed by the NAHB in conjunction with AARP ( American
Association of Retired People) that focuses on the remodeling needs of older adults
who wish to live in their homes safely, independently and comfortably, regardless
of their age or ability level. The course work for this class included training
on a wide range of relevant information for this group, from financial and psychological
needs to options and accessories for "aging" persons.
John Sylvestre has received this certification in 2003. |
